The European Commission visited Amsterdam to mark the start of the Dutch Presidency of the EU Council. On 7 January 2016 Prime Minister Mark Rutte received the members of the European Commission at the National Maritime Museum.

8 Response by His Majesty the King to attacks in Paris

I am deeply shocked by the attacks in Paris yesterday evening. The Netherlands feels a strong bond with France. We stand alongside the French people in mourning the victims. Together with France, we will continue to steadfastly defend freedom against those who use terror to try and undermine it. We will never give up our values of freedom and solidarity. Our thoughts are with all those who are now grieving the loss of their loved ones, and with all the victims of these cowardly attacks.

10 A Royal Visit

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands joined Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister David Cameron for the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at The Cenotaph, Whitehall yesterday. The ceremony is an opportunity for people in the United Kingdom to pay their respects to those killed in the First and Second World War, as well as later conflicts.
