Cycling Festival Europe: Seminar in Edinburgh
This seminar is organised as part of the Cycling Festival Europe, one of the Dutch presidency activities. More than 23 Dutch embassies throughout Europe organise over 30 cycling related activities (and counting) today or in the next weeks and months.
On October 7, 2015 during the Informal Transport Council chaired by Luxembourg, the Ministers adopted a "Declaration on cycling as a climate friendly mode of transport". On 14 April the 28 EU Ministers for environment and transport will meet in Amsterdam to discuss the "Declaration on cycling as a climate friendly mode of transport" they adopted in Luxembourg in the autumn.
The Netherlands as the cycling nation of Europe launched a Cycling Festival Europe as part of its EU presidency events calendar from March to June 2016. Over 23 Dutch Embassies around the continent in will be organising and sponsoring cycle events in collaboration with local stakeholders. These can be all sorts of events such as public rides to get as many people on the bicycle, or workshops to bring together local officials and stakeholders to generate ideas to better integrate bicycles into urban transport systems.
As part of this festival, the Dutch Embassy in London kicks off the festival in the UK with a seminar on “Infrastructure Beyond the Landscape” in Edinburgh, together with Abellio UK, Cycling Scotland and with speakers from the Dutch Cycling Embassy. The cycling seminar wants to draw attention to the closer integration of cycling within communities, infrastructure and public transport in cities. To support this seminar a wide panel of experts from Scotland and The Netherlands will give their contributions and ideas on this matter.
The Cycling Festival Europe 2016 runs until 30 June. On 8 June we will also host for the fourth time the Launch of UK Bike Week 2016 as part of this festival. This launch event will start with a networking breakfast (by invitation only) followed by the APPG Cycling's MP's Annual Bikeride from the Embassy to the Houses of Parliament in London.
This event is co-organised with APPCG, CTC, The Bicycle Association, Cyclescheme and Love To Ride.
